During the six-day tour for the first ever Ethiopian Airlines Canada Canadian FAM trip we asked the group of travel industry professionals and media who embarked on this journey to share their most memorable experience and photo from the trip.
Edith Chasosa Senior Travel & Tours Specialist- Tourcan Vacations shares hers with us.
Edith- Ethiopia was never on my radar and but I was glad I took the chance on this Fam. From the very first day we arrived at the airport the Visa on arrival was very seamless. You pay $50.00 USD and you get a Visa. We were met by our local tour guide representative the forever smiling guide Cheney. I found that exchanging money was fairly easy. Another huge plus was using the local ATM to withdraw cash using your Canadian Debit Card.
Addis Ababa: Like any major city in Africa it was vibrant, busy, colorful with vendors selling their wares and RUSH HOUR every hour! The view of the city from up the hill is spectacular and visiting “Lucy” at the national museum was quiet something.
Bahir Dar: Spectacular view during the boat cruise on Lake Tana on our way to visit a church and seeing the hippos. That was of course another huge plus!
Gondar: Driving from Bahir Dar to Gondar you pass through villages and its great seeing the locals and their way of life. The beautiful and ancient Castles in Gondar dating back to the 1600s was very unique.
Axum: The Ruins and restored Obelisk and sights.
The highlight on this trip was Lalibela. I can’t say enough about my experience here the iconic church of St George and the lesser known but equally breath-taking churches.
This was whirlwind trip on the go every day and I loved it and the hot weather. I am glad I went on the FAM and experienced a different Ethiopia than what we normally see on the news
Ethiopian Airlines Cloud Nine
I had never been in Ethiopian Airlines before. Experiencing business class the very first time was pretty cool! The flight was comfortable, you could sleep all night, read or watch a good selection of movies. The flight attendants where great and attentive, the meals where great especially the option for tasting the local Ethiopian cuisine like injera bread!
